AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

A man was killed in an overnight car crash in Akron.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to an accident at East Market Street and the Kelly Avenue overpass.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Michael Lloyd, was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on East Market Street when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Llyod lost control, drove over the south side sidewalk, struck a luminary pole, drove through some landscaping, went airborne approximately seventy feet down an embankment onto Kelly Avenue. He was not wearing a seatbelt, and was partially ejected. Lloyd was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
