CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
It looks like Cleveland has landed another major motion picture shoot. Published reports out of Buffalo say the film "Draft Day" starring Kevin Costner as the Browns general manager will be filmed in Cleveland, possibly as soon as this spring or summer.
The movie, according to those reports, will move from Buffalo to Cleveland, because the Ohio Motion Picture Film Incentives make it more affordable to shoot here.
Ivan Schwarz, the President of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission says there is nothing official, so he could not comment. But, Schwarz says, the state and the city are proving to be big players in the industry. "Right now I think we're definitely in the top five destination states in the country," he said.
Anybody who was downtown in the summer of 2011 for the filming of The Avengers knows how exciting that was, but it's about more than just excitement, its about economics.
"Some of the bigger films spend a lot of money, literally, its like a dump truck being dumped in our city of millions, tens of millions of dollars," said Schwarz.
Captain America, the Winter Soldier, part of the Avenger series, will shoot here in late spring, and Schwarz said that will be an even bigger local production than The Avengers. The Costner movie could be shooting at the same time.
The state film incentives, and co-operation from the city, county and film commission are making it happen.
"We've had Paramount come back twice, now Marvel Comics back twice and a lot of independent film producers come back numerous times now," said Schwarz.
