CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland police say they've solved a 1993 rape case, and more cold cases could be solved soon.

In the '93 case, a woman found herself dragged into an alley, sexually assaulted and beaten with a brick.

She needed 220 stitches.

The case went unsolved for decades, but Cleveland Police sex crimes investigators just made an arrest. They've charged Anthony Moore with rape.

They cracked the case with a DNA match.

The sex crimes unit has been testing evidence from old, unsolved sex assault cases. They've sent off more than 1000 kits to be tested. They're currently working on evidence from 1993-95.

The state Attorney General is leading a project to test old sex assault evidence kits statewide. The AG's office says Cleveland leads the state in DNA hits in the project.

As of last month, Cleveland had 36 hits confirming suspects or giving police new leads.

Some of the evidence is so old, it was gathered as regular DNA testing was just being developed.
