Roosters rescued from cockfighting ring ready for adoption

RAVENNA, OH (WOIO) -

The roosters rescued from a cockfighting ring on Cleveland's west side, are now at Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary.

43 roosters and hens were taken from a home at 2186 W. 30th Street in Cleveland on Mar. 2. 37 of the birds are now at Happy Trails. The others had to be euthanized.

Police say the man accused of running the cockfighting ring is Jose Pena.

Pena has pled not guilty to animal cruelty and gambling charges.

Anyone interested in adopting a rooster should check their local animal ordinances before calling the sanctuary in Ravenna to arrange a visit; 330-296-5914.
