ROCKY RIVER, OH (WOIO) -

St. Patrick's Church in Cleveland celebrating its 165th birthday this evening with a very special mass.

It is also the first St Patrick's Day mass since the church re-opened in July.

One parishioner made this comment, "we are very happy to be here things are going wonderful."

St. Patrick's was one of 50 churches closed by Bishop Lennon in 2009.

Only after an appeal to the Vatican was it reopened, so for awhile the church's future as it's father admits -- was very much in doubt.

Another thing making this mass special is the election of a new holy father, Pope Francis with his apparent air of humility.

After mass, traditional corn beef was served where many sat down not only for a good food but to reflect on their personal history with this church.
