More bad news for Councilman Zack Reed

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Councilman Zack Reed has been stripped of his Council Committee assignments.

The new information was made public at Monday nights city council meeting.

Council President Martin Sweeney told 19 Action News that even though his duties have been taken away, they cannot take his seat due to an opinion issued last week by the city Law Dept. It states council does not have the authority to evict Reed from office but that he has to be voted out by his ward.

Reed meantime is facing four charges, with the most serious being drunk driving.

The other charges are minor traffic offenses. Reed pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

Reed has no plans on resigning and says he has important work to do in his ward.  So far he has refused to discuss specifics about the night he was arrested.

He's expected back in court Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
