CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

No one may never know why Timothy Russell and passenger Malissa Williams did not stop for police last November before they were killed in a hail of gunfire, but the goal of a seminar Tuesday night was to prevent similar confrontations.

Organizers aimed to give young people a better understanding of what police do, which above all is to enforce the law.

"Hopefully this will keep me out of trouble. Its not like they are out to get you they have a job to do," said one participant.

The seminar is called "What Would you do if stopped by the Police" and it blames some extreme rap music for the disconnect many young people have with authority figures.

"That is why we are here to break through those suspicions," said Judge William Dawson.

East Cleveland Judge William Dawson hosted the event and says when young people are bombarded with violent songs they actually begin to act out those lyrics thinking they are doing nothing wrong.

"Often times the interaction with music causes negativity. There are a lot of home invasions and robberies and in my court we want to break that cycle," said Judge William Dawson.
