AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, the school resource officer at North High School on Gorge Boulevard was alerted by students of a man in the south side parking lot with a gun. The officer immediately responded to the parking lot and located a man arguing with several students.

As the school resource officer walked towards the man, he ordered the man to show his hands. The man walked away from the officer and around an SUV parked in the parking lot. The officer observed the man pull a gun from his waistband and throw the gun. The gun struck a guardrail in the parking lot. The man was taken into custody without further incident.

The gun, a Colt defender air gun, was recovered in the parking lot.

Officers arrested Travaski T. Jackson, 22, of Akron. He was charged with illegal conveyance of an object indistinguishable from a firearm into a school safety zone, facsimile firearm, inducing panic, criminal trespassing and tampering with evidence.

Jackson was booked into the Summit County Jail.
