PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA (WJLA/CNN) – A shooting that ended in three deaths Thursday prompted an hours-long lockdown at Marine Corps Base Quantico.
Authorities said it happened around 11 p.m. ET, and the suspected shooter was among the dead. A sergeant said it began with one person getting fatally shot and the shooter barricading himself in a room.
Officials reported all three of the people killed were staff at the Officers Candidate School. The victims were a man and a woman; the suspect was male.
Using a PA system, police announced a base lockdown. Authorities from the base and Prince William County surrounded the area and entered the room around 2:30 a.m.
"Upon entry they discovered that the shooter, believed to be a male Marine, was dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," said Marine Corps spokesman 1st Lt. Agustin Solivan. "Also upon entry they discovered a third casualty whose identification is unspecified at this time."
No potential motive has been revealed.
