Budweiser Clydesdales visit Cincinnati

Posted: Updated:
WESTERN HILLS, OH (FOX19) -

As Opening Day approaches, some specials guests are in town for the festivities.

Ten Budweiser Clydesdale horses are in town today making a special delivery to a Cincinnati resident.

Jason Goldschmidt of Western Hills won a special delivery through an Anheuser-Busch sweepstakes. Goldschmidt won a special delivery from the horses, two Opening Day tickets, $100 Fun Bucks to spend at Great American Ballpark and various other prizes to help him celebrate Opening Day.

Anheuser-Busch's Budweiser Clydesdales make hundreds of appearances each year.

This year marks the Clydesdale's 80th anniversary with Anheuser Busch.

The horses originated in 1933 to celebrate the repeal of prohibition. They were a gift from August Busch Jr. to his father August Busch Sr.

The family picked the Clydesdales to represent their brand due to their large size and impressive color.

All horses have to meet specific criteria to be a Budweiser horse.

The Budweiser Clydesdales are exclusively male. All horses must have four white sox, a blaze on their face and a black mane and tail. The horses must be at least 18 hands high and weigh over 2 thousand pounds.

Aside from their special delivery on Sunday, the Clydesdales will also be in the Opening day parade on Monday.
