Could a woman play in the NBA?

Posted: Updated:

Cleveland (WOIO) - Mark Cuban is a smart man. Actually, he's a genius, when it comes to the internet, when it comes to ideas, and most of all, when it comes to marketing. So it should surprise nobody that he's generating attention again, saying his Dallas Mavericks would consider draft Baylor star Brittney Griner in round two of the NBA Draft, because, as Cuban says, "you never know unless you give somebody a chance."

Actually, Mark, in this case, you do know. It doesn't require neanderthal thinking to believe that a woman, even one of the greatest women ever to play the game, with 748 collegiate blocked shots to her credit, and 18 dunks, would get utterly embarrassed by even a marginal NBA player. Some coaches, including legendary UConn women's coach Geno Auriemma, believes it would set the women's game back years, saying "I think it would be a sham...the fact that a woman could actually play right now in the NBA and compete successfully against the level of play that they have is absolutely ludicrous."

To put it another way, picture a prospective business owner walking into the room on "Shark Tank" and pitching this idea to Cuban. He'd laugh 'em right out of the building.

But, he has us talking tonight. And who's better at that than Mark Cuban?
