Hospital Horror: Patient attacked in ICU at Hillcrest

Posted: Updated:

A man has been indicted for walking into Hillcrest Hospital and attacking a patient in the ICU and we're told the intruder did not even know the victim.

It happened last Wednesday afternoon. Cuyahoga County prosecutors have indicted 28-year old Andrew Margheret of Kirtland.

He is charged with three counts of assault, plus a burglary charge tied to the trespassing.

Investigators say the patient had an oxygen mask, and Margharet tried to take it off. He is also accused of assaulting nurses.

We're told hospital security and an off duty officer arrested him.

It's not clear how long Margharet had been in the hospital,  but a Mayfield Heights police report shows investigators have video of him walking into the hospital and in various parts of the hospital.

The Cleveland Clinic runs Hillcrest. The clinic calls the "safety of...patients, visitors, and employees...a priority."

The clinic also says "we commend the immediate response of our employees..." and, of, course, the hospital says it is cooperating with the investigation.

Back in 2010 at Hillcrest Hospital, an elderly man shot and killed his wife, then killed himself.

Four days later, another man shot himself--critically wounding himself.

A report shows Mayfield Heights police think Margheret was high on drugs at the time of the incident.
