ROCKY RIVER, OH (WOIO) -

A male eagle was found dead in the Rocky River Metroparks in the area of I-480 and Grayton Road.

It's not yet known what caused the eagle's death at this time.

Metroparks officials consistently observed the eagle nest, and determined the dead eagle was from a nesting pair.

Because the male was not returning to the nest to help with incubation and feeding, it is likely that the eggs will not hatch. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to help the female eagle. She will soon realize her eggs won't hatch, and will seek a new mate.

There has already been a new male spotted hanging around her nest, and Metroparks officials hope the female eagle finds a new mate and stays in her current territory.

They are optimistic that eagles will successfully breed in the Metroparks in the near future.
