STRONGSVILLE, OH (WOIO) -

Unions gathered at the Gazebo in Strongsville Friday afternoon to show their support for the Strongsville teachers and students.

"I didn't think it would last more than two weeks," said Atty. Matthew Hebebrand.

Attorney Matthew Hebebrand is on the other side of the Strongsville teacher's strike. He's a substitute government teacher at the high school.

"Replacement teachers are there for your education despite the intensity of the situation the high emotions involved in that," added Atty. Hebebrand.

Hebebrand says crossing the picket line comes at a price. Many teachers want to see their fill-ins fail by not leaving lesson plans and some telling their students not to listen to the subs.

"If the idea gets out there that these teachers are replaceable, that they're not worth what the school district is paying them then they know that they'll have to give in and that's what's been going on."

But he says this strike is about power politics between the state school boards, state governments and unions.

"I feel sorry in a sense for the teachers because I think they're being used and they don't know it."

As for the strike he says many are prepared to see it last through the end of the school year and that means being there for the students.

"Be a source of strength for them and to show them you're here for a reason," said Atty. Hebebrand.
