In the 2013 NFL Draft, Browns draft linebacker, Barkevious "Kiki" Mingo from LSU.
Mingo arrived in Cleveland Friday afternoon and was formally introduced in Berea.
Head coach, Rob Chudzinski sees Mingo as an outstanding pass rusher, who's been battle tested in the SEC. He will move to outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Ray Horton's 3-4 defense.
"I can say this, I have two coaches that are great for this position, Coach (Brian) Baker and Coach (Joe) Cullen," Mingo said on Friday at his introductory press conference. "I know they are going to coach me up well and they're committed. They're committed to winning football games, committed to this team and they're just ready to win."
Mingo's also been described as a person of high character and very hard working.
"At LSU I played with a high motor," Mingo said. "I wanted to get there. Every play I want to get a sack, I wanted to be in the back field. Just having that mindset I guess helps everything else."
The Browns front office is excited about the possibilities.
Mingo is the ninth player selected by the Browns from Louisiana State University and first since defensive lineman Chase Pittman was drafted in the seventh round in 2007. Mingo joins defensive back Ken Konz as the only players from LSU selected by the Browns in the first round in 1951. Konz was chosen with the 14th overall pick.
Mingo joins Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown (1957) and tight end Kellen Winslow (2004) as the only players selected by the Browns with the sixth overall pick.
The second and third rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft will be held Friday, April 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Browns currently have no selection in the second round and their next pick won't come until the third round, with #68 overall. The team forfeited its 2nd round pick after acquiring Josh Gordon last year.
