Indians first baseman Nick Swisher will most likely miss the two-game series with the Phillies because of a sore left shoulder, manager Terry Francona said on Tuesday.
"His left shoulder's been nagging him a little bit,'' Francona before Tuesday's game. "We've been playing the heck out of him.''
Swisher is batting .265 with two homers and nine RBI's in 23 games this season.
Francona believes the injury is related to the former Ohio State Buckeye playing right field and first base this season. It is something Swisher is used to doing, however.
"He always did it, but, especially as his arm started hurting, it became harder for him,'' Francona said. "We'll give him a little blow and see how it does.''
As for center fielder Michael Bourn, is was eligible to come off the disabled list on Tuesday but isn't ready. Bourn had his right index finger cut when he slid into first base and had it stepped on, on April 14.
Bourn will have to play a couple minor league games in a rehab assignment before being activated.
