Pestano out with "cranky" elbow

Posted: Updated:

Indians reliever Vinnie Pestano has not been available the last two games because of what manager Terry Francona called a "cranky" elbow. His shut down has forced Joe Smith into the set up role.

Pestano threw a bullpen session on Saturday indicating that it's not a serious injury.

Pestano's injury forced Francona to use Cody Allen in the 7th inning on Friday night, instead of Smith, and it resulted in Minnesota grabbing a 6-5 lead. Chris Parmalee homered off Allen for the lead. The Indians would eventually win the game 7-6 in 10 innings.
