Troopers investigating fatal crash in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Troopers with the Ohio State Highwa Patrol are investigating a fatal accident that happened on Church Road east of State Route 94 Sunday morning.

The accident happened just after 5 a.m.

Earnest Nelson, 29 of Orrville was westbound on Church Road when he drifted off the right side of the road, causing the vehicle to go airborne.  The vehicle went over a creek, struck an embankment, became airborne again and then struck a tree.

Nelson was wearing a seatbelt and transported to Aultman Orrville Hospital where he was treated and released.

The front seat passenger, Lance Almond, 29 of Wooster, who was also wearing a seat belt, was taken to Affinity Hospital in Massillon where he was treated and released.

A back seat passenger, Tremale Thomas, 25 of Wooster, was pronounced dead on the scene.  It's unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt.

The events leading up to the accident are under investigation.

This is the 4th fatal crash in Wayne County this year.
