Editorial: Taxing taxpayers' patience

(WOIO) -

Two recent revelations involving our tax dollars---are taxing our patience.

First, we learned that Metro Health Medical Center has doled out three-quarters of a million dollars in bonuses to a handful of lucky executives, including the outgoing CEO.

Not a king's ransom, until you consider that the hospital lost six and-a-half million dollars so far in 2013.  County executive Ed Fitzgerald is correct in demanding answers, especially since taxpayers subsidize that hospital--- by some thirty-six million dollars a year.

An even bigger head-scratcher over at the county clerk of courts where newly-elected clerk, Andrea Rocco, has discovered the office has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to send certified mail, to other county agencies.  Many of them located in the same building as the clerk's office.  And get this…the clerk's office was even sending certified mail to the clerk's office itself!  Yes, they were mailing themselves.

Heck, even that perennial money pit---the U.S. Post office, couldn't come up with a more creative way to waste our hard- earned dollars.

Write and let me know what you think.  I'm Bill Applegate and here's the address.
