The Washington Redskins will not change their name, despite calls to do so because some feel it is offensive. Team owner Daniel Snyder relayed that message in an interview with USA Today.
"We will never change the name of the team," Snyder told the newspaper. "As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it's all about and what it means, so we feel pretty fortunate to be just working on next season."
Critics say the name is offensive to Native Americans. Some local officials have cried for change, there is even a movement to deny the team federal trademark protection.
Snyder remains dug in. "We'll never change the name," Snyder told USA Today. "It's that simple. NEVER -- you can use caps."
