3 arrested after drugs seized on turnpike

SUMMIT COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

One man and two women from Ohio are facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized two ounces of heroin, 192 oxycodone pills and one ecstasy pill, worth approximately $17,000 following a traffic stop on the Ohio Turnpike in Summit County.

Troopers stopped a rented 2012 Chevy Cruze, with Pennsylvania registration,  near milepost 177, in Summit County at 6:47 p.m. on May 14th.

After approaching the vehicle, troopers detected an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed in plain view, marijuana on the floor.

Troopers discovered that the women inside the car were concealing heroin and prescription pills on their bodies. 

The driver, Kory D. Smith, 27, and passengers, Lauren A. Luke, 25, and Brandy Lee Ross, 19, all of Steubenville were taken into custody and are currently in the Summit County Jail.

The trio was charged with possession and trafficking in heroin, both first-degree felonies; possession and trafficking in a Schedule II substance, both second-degree felonies; and possession of ecstasy, a fifth-degree felony.  Luke and Ross were also charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. 

If convicted, Smith could face up to 37 years in prison and up to a $72,500 fine and Luke and Ross could face up to 42 years in prison and up to an $82,500 fine.
