In memory of teens, foundation uses skid cars to help teens drive safer

MEDINA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

A police car with an instructor behind the wheel fishtails during a left turn.  The officer quickly gains control.  Could a teen driver with little experience do the same?

In Medina County kids are getting the experience thanks to the "skid car".

The key to the skid car is this it's a drift lift, an outrigger on the rear wheels that lifts the tires partially off the ground.

This makes it able to skid at lower speeds due to reduced friction.

Erin was just days shy of 17 and Andrew was 13.

Erin and Andrew's parents founded Ehrbar Angels Foundation so kids will learn driving skills hands-on, in a controlled environment. Hands-on is the only way to tell the story.

Haley Roddy was a teammate of Erin's.

"We had a lot of fun together and I looked up to Erin and I still do to this day," said Roddy.

Andrew was a cousin.  Both have taken the take control class.  He says it gave him a message to share with classmates.

"One mistake you make can, you know, change your life forever, so I always remind them to be careful."

It is a true community effort.  Westfield Insurance is a prime sponsor and Bill Doraty Kia donated 3 skid cars.
