Shortly after giving up a home run that temporarily gave Seattle an 8-7 lead in Monday's game, Indians closer Chris Perez deleted his Twitter account. Perez received a series of hate-filled tweets after Monday's game.
The home run, hit by Endy Chavez, was the third round-tripper given up in two games. On Saturday, Perez blew his second save of the season when he gave up back-to-back homers in the ninth inning against the Mariners.
Perez has become a lightning rod for criticism last season after he bashed fans for not showing up to the ballpark despite the team challenging for first place.
Perez, a two-time All Star, is 81 for 91 in save opportunities since he took over as the Indians closer in 2011. This season, Perez is 2-0 with 6 saves and a 2.25 ERA in 16 games.
