Schools prep for tornado

NORTH OLMSTED, OH (WOIO) -

The F-4 tornado brought utter devastation when it swept through Moore, Oklahoma. A continuing focus of concern is placed on the Plaza Towers Elementary School which took a direct hit and the bordering suburb's Briarwood Elementary School in Oklahoma City.

Tom Dreiling, principal at the 80 year old North Olmsted Middle School, knows all too well you have to be ready for anything. "We do monthly drills.  We talk with our students about what the proper procedures are," said Principal Dreiling.

The North Olmsted School District has plans just in case severe weather threatens the lives of staff and students. Teachers go over emergency procedures with students. The principal states that his district "does do a lot with the kids."

The procedures are evaluated every year and updated with help of local dire department to ensure the safe practices are current and appropriate.

Coleen Nola sends her kids to North Olmsted District. She takes comfort in knowing that the district's schools are on top of safety and bad weather concerns. Nola says, "They practice regularly and anything can happen anywhere."
