Tony's take on Trent? Don't panic

Posted: Updated:

Berea, OH (WOIO) - When Twitter exploded on Tuesday, with reports of Trent Richardson being "out until August", it seemed a bit dramatic, considering the fact that, after Thursday, they're ALL off until the end of July. After all, the Browns made it clear a week ago that they were taking it slow with Richardson's lower leg strain. Nothing's changed. The team is doing the right thing by protecting their franchise running back, rather than rush him back for a mini-camp. But it's certainly understandable that some are concerned, considering Trent's history of injuries.

I asked Rob Chudzinski if he's concerned that this ongoing issue will set Trent back in the weight room, in the weeks ahead. He said 'not at all'. I believe him. But come July 26, when the Browns kick off training camp, Richardson has to be on the field. The OTA's, the mini-camp, they're important in the short term, as the Browns learn their new systems. But for a player like Richardson, they take a clear backseat to the long term: they need him ready for training camp, for the season opener, and for bigger and better things throughout the season.
