KENT, OH (WOIO) -

A heroic cab driver was honored by Kent State University on Thursday morning after she thwarted a potentially explosive plan to do harm to the campus.

Driver Misty Smead picked up Louis Koleszar Tuesday morning at the Akron Canton Airport. He allegedly said he wanted to go to KSU. Within minutes, he attacked Smead and threatened to blow up the University.

Using a code word, Smead alerted her dispatcher that she was in trouble and he called police.

As police began racing to meet her, Smead told the man in her cab they were going to exit the highway. He then allegedly grabbed her neck. Smead managed to calm her passenger down by offering to stop for a cigarette and coffee. Police met her and arrested the man just off of Interstate 76 at the SR 44 exit.

The Colorado man is now being held at the Portage Jail.

Thursday, Kent State presented Smead and her dispatcher with Kent State memorabilia as a show of gratitude.
