ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) -

An unruly drunken man was charged after trying to steal beer from an Elyria grocery store.

Cops were called to Apples Grocery on N. Abbe Road Friday for a highly intoxicated man causing a disturbance.

Once on scene, the store's loss prevention worker told police that a drunken man, identified as Randall Perkins, stumbled into the store toward the beer area. Perkins picked up two 12-packs of beer, walked past the cash registers and tried to leave the store without paying.

The loss prevention worker said that as he stopped Perkins from leaving, Perkins staggered backwards and fell to the ground. While on the ground, he allegedly started to yell profanities as other store customers tried to avoid him.

When officers tried to question Perkins, his speech was so slurred he was not understandable.

Due to his highly intoxicated and unruly state, Perkins was placed under arrest and charged with theft and disorderly conduct intoxication.
