OHIO CITY, OH (WOIO) -

One of Cleveland's trendiest neighborhoods continues to thrive.

19 Action News has learned of new plans that would bring more people and more business, to Ohio City.

Joyce Nero has lived in Ohio City for more than 10 years, and in that time she says she's seen the area come to life.

"It's fascinating to me because Ohio City, they brought it up. They renovated, and it stayed. It didn't go back down," says Joyce Nero.

Now Nero is even more excited after learning about plans in the works to turn the Market Plaza Shopping Center on W. 25th and Lorain into a 200 unit apartment building with retail shops on the first floor.

"A lot of great things are happening. Everything is just up and running," added Nero.

Eric Wobser is with Ohio City Incorporates, the community development group helping to get the project off the ground. He says the city of Cleveland will shell out $1 million for Streetscape.

RTA is expected to pay $3.4 million to update its train station.

"This project is a unique opportunity to connect downtown and Ohio City because it sits right on the red line rapid station. So anybody that lives in one of these new apartments is going to be a three minute train ride to downtown Cleveland," says Eric Wobser.

Nero says the project is one more reason why she'll stay in Ohio City where it will be even easier to get around.

"It's convenient and the community it's a growing community," says Nero.

The project is privately funded with help from civic partners. The hope is to have the apartment complex and retail space up in running in about two years.
