CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

One Cleveland police supervisor has been fired for what's described as "egregious" actions during a deadly high-speed pursuit last November.

During a news conference on Tuesday, Cleveland Police Chief McGrath said fired supervisor Michael Doneghan was "totally disengaged" during the chase, and left the chase to go sit in a city park.

"I can sum that up in two words 'accountability and engagement,'" said Cleveland Police Chief McGrath. "In the Division of Police, we expect supervisors to be engaged and accountable for the people that work for them. And our rules and regulations are very specific for our front line supervisors that are on the street."

There were a total of 46 supervisors working the night of the chase. Two supervisors, Lt. Paul Wilson and Ulrich Zouhar, have also been demoted and nine others suspended anywhere from one to 30 days.

276 patrol officers were working the night of the chase, and 104 could now face punishment. The shooting from deadly chase is still at the Prosecutor's Office for review. Chief McGrath believes the hearings for the patrol officers involved should begin in mid-July.

Last November, dozens of police cars chased Timothy Russell across town and into East Cleveland. Officers first saw the car speeding and heard what appeared to be a gunshot coming from it. The driver refused to stop, and officers reported seeing a weapon in the car, but no gun was ever found. Police ultimately killed Russell and his passenger, Malissa Williams.
