BATH, OH (WOIO) -

Police in Bath are urging vigilance after a black bear was spotted twice in the area of Ghent Hills and also Rambling Way Drive on Wednesday.

"I live in Bath so I was kind of shocked when I heard about it this morning," said Saule Narbutaitis.

"We're actually just mowing grass and we heard about the bear. So we're going to keep our eyes peeled, see what happens," said Torry Hower.

Bath's furry friend was first seen wondering down W. Bath Road Wednesday morning around six.   Then a little later it was caught on Bath Township police dash-cam video making its way west to Medina County.

Black bears are usually fearful of people and do not attack or kill adults, children or pets as long as the bear is given its space and not cornered.

People should keep their distance and remain calm if they see a bear. DO NOT APPROACH IT.

"Obviously, you want to run away from it if it comes at you.  But it's more likely to be afraid of you than you are of it," said Troy Dewitt.

To report observations of black bears, call 800-945-3543.
