Mom snatches kids from grandmother, faces charges

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A mom who lost custody of her children is in trouble with police after they said she took her kids from a front yard and drove away with them.

The children were in the custody of their grandmother at the time of the abduction.

Police said the two kids were playing with their mom, who was visiting at the time.

However, when the children's grandmother, DeWanna Copeland, walked inside for a moment, she came out and saw the kids being loaded into the backseat of a car.

Copeland gave police a description of the vehicle, and authorities were able to find the children.

When the car was pulled over, police said the children's mother, Theresa Molina, was in the passenger seat of the car, and a man was driving.

Authorities said Molina told officers she had full custody of her kids, but police learned that wasn't true after checking with the Department of Children's Services.

Molina then told police she took the children because she feared for their safety.

Officers said Molina is not allowed to have her children without the supervision of a state caseworker.

Police still charged her with custodial interference and sent the kids back to their grandmother.
