By the city's own estimates, it could take ten years to patch up all the potholes and repave Cleveland's streets.  Twelve thousand boarded up homes are still standing and police and firefighters work in dilapidated buildings using outdated equipment. So why does the city, in partnership with the county, think that it has the resources to get into the hotel business?

Last week, Mayor Frank Jackson and County Executive Ed Fitzgerald unveiled plans to build a new hotel as part of a $350,000,000 downtown make-over.  $93,000,000 would come from tax dollars, money left over from the under-budget convention center and medical mart.

Well, if indeed demand is there for a new hotel, we think private developers ought to do the job.  And, by the way, who gave the mayor and the county executive the authority to use the medical mart sales tax money for this project?

Write and let me know what you think.  I'm Bill Applegate and here's the address.
