SOLON, OH (WOIO) -

A Cleveland man is charged after hitting a Solon cop in the face.

It happened June 7 around 11:30 p.m.

An officer noticed a man, identified as Julio A. Santiago-Dennis, acting oddly at Cochran and Solon Roads, kicking a street sign and jumping into the air.

As the officer was about to complete a written warning, he asked the 23-year-old if he had anything that he shouldn't have, and he replied "Yeah, um" and shoved his right hand into his sweatshirt pocket. He refused to remove his hand and as the officer attempted to gain control of his hand and what might be in it, a struggle ensued and the individual struck the officer in the face.

The officer and a second officer finally were able to get Santiago-Dennis under control. In addition to being hit in the face, the officer also suffered a dislocated finger.

Santiago-Dennis was arrested and charged with assaulting a peace officer.
