MONTVILLE, OH (WOIO) -

Just before 7 a.m. on Friday, Montville Police received a 911 call for a bear in the yard of a home in the Blue Heron Development near the intersection of River Styx Road and SR 162.

While the caller was on the phone, the bear left the yard heading west. The bear was described as being larger than an adult size human. Officers responded to the area, but did not observe the bear.

Shortly after 8 a.m., Montville Police got a second report of a bear sighting in the same area. This time the caller reported that the bear crossed SR 162 just east of Blue Heron Drive, traveling south.

Black bears are usually fearful of people and do not attack or kill adults, children or pets as long as the bear is given its space and not cornered.

People should keep their distance and remain calm if they see a bear. DO NOT APPROACH IT.
