NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police stopped a man after they smelled marijuana coming from his vehicle but later learned he was suspected of stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise.

Investigators said the suspect, Jason Weeks, stole $1,500 worth of merchandise from a Target store on Old Hickory Boulevard in April.

Weeks is also accused of stealing items from a Walmart on North Gallatin Pike and then fraudulently returning the items in January.

Employees at the stores helped to positively identify Weeks in the cases.  He is now facing drug and theft charges.
