Indians sign more draft picks

Cleveland (WOIO) - The Cleveland Indians signed two more draft selections on Friday. The team signed pitchers Dace Kime and Kenny Matthews. Kime was a third round pick (79th overall). Matthews was a seventh round selection (201st overall).

Kime is 21 years old,  6'1" with a 2.99 ERA in 27 games and eight starts this year for the University of Louisville. Kime began the season in the bullpen before entering the starting rotation mid-year and had a three start stretch from April 30-May 12 where he had a 0.96 ERA over 18.2 innings. He recorded 150 strikeouts in 136.0 innings during his 3-year Louisville career. Dace was previously selected in the eighth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates after earning All-American, All-State and All-League honors during his career at Defiance (OH) High School. 

Kenny Matthews is a  6'3", 200-pound lefty who began his college career at Cal State Fullerton before transferring to Riverside City College prior to his senior season. Mathews is 19 years old. He appeared in 12 games, making nine starts for the Riverside Tigers. Matthews went 3-1 with a 1.23 ERA. He struck out 52 batters compared to just 2 walks. Mathews was selected in the 12th round of the First-Year-Player Draft in 2011 by the New York Mets.

As of Friday, Cleveland has signed 18 of the club's 39 draft picks.
