A community goes into action to help a boy's special cause

Posted: Updated:

Look no further than a lemonade stand in Garfield Heights for renewed faith in humanity.

In a city hardened by serial killings and accused kidnappings -- its residents gladly hand over their hard earned money for a little boy's cause.

"I am raising money for my grandmother's funeral."

Michael's grandmother died on Father's Day.

Today was his fourth day on the stand and the second of our coverage.

"When I heard about it on 19 Action News I just had to come over here," says one viewer.

The Andersons were so moved, 12-year-old Madeline and her younger sister Emily held a garage sale at their home in Akron and then drove to Garfield Heights to help.

"It did really well. We got $88."

Mr. Anderson - beamed with pride.  "They make me proud all the time."

A family friend - not seen in years was also drawn to the stand by the news coverage – giving $50 but taking no drink.

At the stand compassion seems to be contagious.

Two women brought money collected from co-workers at their office.

"I was touched by it."

By the end of yesterday's coverage $57  was raised. At the end of this evening's coverage that number was in the thousands.

The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday and so far $3,526 has been raised.
