Cavs on Oden's short list

Posted: Updated:

Cleveland (WOIO) - Former Portland Trailblazer, and Ohio State Buckeye, Greg Oden will continue his pursuit of an NBA comeback this week, as he plans to meet with the Cavaliers, Heat, Celtics, Grizzlies and Spurs.

The former # 1 pick, in 2007, Oden has played only 82 career games since, thanks to several knee injuries and three microscopic knee surgeries. The injuries caused him to take an early retirement after the 2009-2010 season.

In May, Oden attended a Chicago pre-draft camp, where he began surprising players with his progress. According to former OSU star Deshaun Thomas, Oden is making large strides towards a successful comeback to the league. "Man he looks unbelievable," Thomas said. "He's running, he's lifting weights. You might be seeing a comeback. He looks like he is ready to go."

Over his career, Oden averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. He continues to train in Columbus, and will visit teams in hopes of having an NBA home for the 2013-2014 season.
