AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic has launched an investigation into two of the city's rec centers. There are claims of missing money.

19 Action News investigative reporter Scott Taylor broke this one on twitter.

There are reports police were tipped off by the mayor and are now investigating two employees working at two different recreation centers.

The city, on Monday, decided to announce on Tuesday in a press conference that two employees were under investigation by Akron Police for misusing thousands of dollars.

"Because of information we received that some people were not following procedure at the Rec Centers," said Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic.

The mayor won't name the rec centers or the employees but one is already on paid administrative leave.

"It appears there are at least two people who may have misused that cash. I will give you full reports as soon as its ready. I wanted to let you know we took the appropriate action to start the investigation," added said Mayor Plusquellic.

So far no criminal charges have been filed against any of the two employees.
