TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A portion of the Anthony Wayne Trail, from Copeland Boulevard to South Detroit Avenue, closed to westbound traffic due to an accident involving a pedestrian Wednesday morning.

According to 911 dispatch, John Helton IV ran out of his backyard and onto the Anthony Wayne Trail around 6:30 a.m. He was struck by a car and then hit by a semi truck.

Helton was transported to a local hospital. He is listed in critical, but stable condition.

With the road closed, drivers had to avoid the Anthony Wayne Trail between Maumee and the Toledo Zoo during their Wednesday morning commute. Lanes have since reopened.

The incident remains under investigation.
