CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

This was a complete shock to everyone in the courtroom.  Ariel Castro got emotional and said, "I want to see my daughter."

He asked the judge if he could visit with his 6-year-old daughter in jail. His daughter happens to be Amanda Berry's daughter as well.

"If you could please reiterate on contact with my child," whispered Castro.

"Do you want me to readdress the issue of contact with your child," asked Cuyahoga County Judge Michael Russo.

"Yes, my 6 year old," said Castro.

"Are you referring to the minor child," asked Judge Russo.

"Yes, please," answered Castro.

"I won't allow that," stated Judge Russo.

Six years ago inside his house on Seymour Avenue, Ariel Castro had a baby with Amanda Berry while holding Amanda, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus captive.

Michelle and Gina helped deliver the little one.

People who live near Amanda Berry and her daughter are shocked with the request.

"The request is not acceptable, whatsoever. That poor little girl went through whatever she went through in that house and so did her mother.  What right does he have to her?" says Jessica Booker, one of Amanda Berry's neighbors.

In Ohio, Ariel Castro has no legal right to his daughter.  He and Amanda Berry weren't married, so mom has legal custody.

Castro has to file for visitation in domestic court.  Then file another motion in criminal court.

Amanda Berry and her family are not commenting on the request.
