AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

An Akron man is off to prison for 10 years for a massive mortgage fraud scheme.

U.S. District Judge John Adams called Jack R. Coppenger an "economic predator" before
issuing his sentence. Coppenger led the scheme in two states, Ohio and Florida, and resulted in $36 million in losses.

Judge Adams will determine the amount of restitution Coppenger, age 50, must
pay later this year. The government has asked for $35 million.

More than 40 people have been found guilty of crimes for their various roles in the
mortgage fraud.
