Cleveland (WOIO) - The Indians had a chance to do something no other team has done in 2013...beat Max Scherzer. But the Tigers pitcher, who was 13-0 coming into the game on Monday night, did just enough to earn a no-decision, and his teammates did the rest, outlasting the Tribe in 10 innings, 4-2 the final at Progressive Field.
Jhonny Peralta gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the second inning, doubling to deep center off Scott Kazmir to bring Victor Martinez home.
The next two belonged to the Indians, as Lonnie Chisenhall singled home Michael Brantley and Mike Aviles in the bottom of the second to give the Tribe a 2-1 lead. But it was shortlived.
Top of the fourth, and Matt Tuisosopo homered off Kazmir, setting the stage for extra innings.
Martinez' two-run double off Matt Albers in the 10th proved to the difference.
With the loss, the Indians lose 3 out of 4 to the Tigers in the series, and fall three and a half games back in the Central division.
