AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron Fire and dive teams have called off the search for a 12-year-old boy who went into Mud Brook and floated down stream.

The family tells us, Nick Shaffer was near the brook and he went in, his mother tried to pull him out.

Shaffer is autistic and the family said he had no shirt on when fell into the water.

Dive teams searched the area behind Timber Top Apartments off of Portage Trail, without any luck.

Authorities will return Friday morning for a recovery mission.
