Gas prices on the rise

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Motorists across the country are feeling the burn in their pocketbooks as gas prices begin to rise. According to East Central Triple A, the national price for gas is $3.65 a gallon. In Northeast Ohio, the average gas price is $3.66 per gallon, a rise of 27 cents just this week.

Last year at this time, gas was 24 cents cheaper than it is today. The national price per gallon average has now increased for nine days in a row.

Gas prices seemed to have hit a summer low around July 79 at $3.47 a gallon. Despite the high prices of gas as of late, this is still an improvement from the daily high of $4.11 per gallon in July of 2008.

Motorists in the Midwest are seeing the highest spikes in gas prices lead by Indiana at 32 cents higher per gallon and Michigan at 30 cents higher per gallon. However, all across our nation drivers are paying more for gas today than at this time last week.

Recent rising gas prices could be caused by new refinery issues and the high rising price of crude oil. The political unrest in Egypt has been a key factor in our rising gas prices due to Egypt's proximity to major oil producing countries and the major oil export region of the Suez Canal.

Unfortunately, consumers can expect even further rises in prices in the coming weeks.
