Gullane, Scotland (WOIO) - It's an American atop the leaderboard after the first round of the 142nd Open Championship, as Zach Johnson put a 5-under 66 on his card at Muirfield, good enough for a one-shot lead.
Spain's Rafael Cabrera-Bello, who shot 67, and 1998 Open champion Mark O'Meara are one shot off the lead.
Jordan Spieth, the 19-year-old from Dallas who just qualified for the Open with his playoff win at the John Deere Classic last weekend, carded three birdies and a bogey in his Open Championship debut to finish at 2-under 69.
As for Tiger Woods, he started off slowly but came on strong at the end, finishing in a group of six at 2-under 69, tied with Phil Mickelson.
