(Toledo News Now) -

A Toledo man wanted for the rape of a young child is now in custody.

U.S. Marshals arrested Robert Tibbits Thursday night in Kentucky.

A deputy with the U.S. Marshal's Office says Perrysburg Township police were instrumental in helping track him down. The department forwarded a lead to the U.S. Marshals, who surrounded a trailer where Tibbits was hiding. He eventually surrendered.

"He's still in Kentucky right now. He will be going through an extradition process to Ohio - which he'll be coming back to Toledo to face the music," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.

Toledo police say Tibbits could be back in their custody and sent to the Lucas County Jail within the next few days.
