CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Several hundred people in Cincinnati joined a nationwide call to action to get justice for Trayvon Martin, after the acquittal of his killer, George Zimmerman. The group rallied in front of the courthouse early Saturday.

State Representative Alicia Reece, (D) Bond Hill, organized the crowd, many of whom are disappointed with George Zimmerman's acquittal.

"When you see the Martin family work as hard as they did to try to move their kids to a better area where you would think that you wouldn't have to worry about your kids being shot down and it still happens – that lets you know that we definitely need to do something," said Ronald Hummons, a Martin supporter.

Reese requested that the protestors sign a petition that demands federal action against Zimmerman, who claimed that he shot 17-year-old Martin in self-defense.

The shooting death of Trayvon Martin has generated as heat from both sides of the issue. Supporters of Martin say the verdict was unjust while supporters of George Zimmerman say Martin got justice from a Florida jury.

A Zimmerman supporter named Ernie, from Hamilton believed that justice was served.

"Zimmerman was found not guilty of any charges so why rally for a criminal which Trayvon Martin was because he attacked Zimmerman and all Zimmerman was doing was defending himself," said Ernie.

Ernie, who says he's not a bigot, insists the only reason Trayvon Martin has garnered so much support is because of his race.

"If that young man who died down there had been a Hispanic or had been a white guy there'd had been no such uproar,"  said Ernie.

Since the Zimmerman verdict, Twitter and Facebook have been buzzing with comments about the factor of race.

FOX19 will continue to follow actions taken from both sides of the case to provide balanced news.
