Indians avoid sweep

Posted: Updated:

The Cleveland Indians won their first game since the All Star game as they defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-1 Sunday afternoon. The victory helped the Tribe avoid being swept after dropping the first two games of the series Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Justin Masterson was just what the Indians needed as he pitched 7 innings with 8 strikeouts, while only giving up 1 hit and 1 earned run.

Jason Kipnis also knocked in his second home run of the series with a two run shot to left field that just got over the wall. The blast was the 15th of the season for Kipnis.

The Indians will next travel to Seattle for a three game series before returning home on Friday to start a seven game home stand.
