Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Police are investigating a mid-afternoon shooting that sent one man to the hospital Wednesday.

It happened around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on Freeman Street near Auburn Avenue.

According to a police report, Michael Johnson was clearing brush from a vacant lot in the 1500 block of Freeman and observed three men standing next to a gray Dodge Dakota truck that was parked in an alley along the lot. Johnson says he saw one of the men run past him, then heard several gunshots from behind him.

After that, Johnson says he felt a burning in his left hand and realized he had been shot. He says he saw two men in the truck, chasing after the man who ran away.

Johnson was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck and three men were last seen headed westbound on Freeman. However, responding crews were unable to locate them.

Anyone with more information is urged to call police.
